Race Report

It was a lovely morning for the June race. We welcomed two new runners: Jack and Rebekah Searle and welcomed back William Murray after an absence of nearly 8 years.

First home by nearly thee minutes in a time of 19:38 was Jack Searle, the fastest time this year. Some of you may remember Jack at the lad who marshalled at Bas's corner at the Andover parkrun for many months. My how he has improved since he started running. But you don't get the trophy on your first run so the honour of being Most Improved Man went to Jack's Dad, Raymond, in second place. And his Mum, Christina was Most Improved Woman, just behind his sister Rebekah who was also running off an estimated handicap.

So well done to all the Searles. Are you prepared to reveal what you had for breakfast? I think the rest of us need some of it.

We paused to remember runner number 84, John Ellicock who died recently. John is pictured here with his father, Jack who presented him with the Most Improved Man trophy at the October 2009 race. There won't be an L2SOTM in July as the date clashes with a party to celebrate John's life. Runners are recommended to try the Abbott's Ann trail races which offer 10K, 5K and 2K options and are raising funds for the Andover Foodbank. www.muddyrunners.org.uk/abbotts-ann-trail-run

Thanks very much to Maggie Barber, Andy Smith, Sandra Doney, Nick and Sarah Collier, Lizzie and George and David Gould for helping and to the Cricket Club for the lovely venue.
