Race Report

Despite the unappetizing weather—grey, dismal, cool and damp—and the puddles everywhere (right across the road in places), a good number of runners competed in this month’s L2SOTM. We were delighted to welcome new runners Christopher, Chris and Lizzie to their first L2SOTM.

David and Alice: triumphant again

David and Alice receiving the Most Improved trophies from Emma

The “interesting” going underfoot—some of the puddles were hiding potholes and there was plenty of water everywhere—perhaps meant that times were generally a little down. Only three runners with a real handicap managed to show an improvement. First of these was last month’s Most Improved Man who knocked another half minute off his time. Congratulations to David Roebuck on retaining the trophy. Congratulations, too, to Alice Evans, who romped through the field to finish as Most Improved Woman, retaining her trophy too. The only other time the men’s and women’s trophies have been retained by both was in February last year.

Magnus on his last 100 yards

Magnus Stroier, at five and a half, magnificently completed the course under his own steam to become the month’s Rising Star: well done, Magnus!

Many thanks to Katie and Emma Evans who, aided and abetted by Maggie, organised the race in Jeremy’s absence. Thanks also to David and helpers for the signs, to Maggie and Jim for the refreshments and, of course, to the Cricket Club for the lovely venue.

It is a handicap race so the slowest have as much chance of winning the cups as the fastest. Supporters of all ages are very welcome.

Next month’s race coincides with Mothering Sunday, so it is being started at the earlier time of 9am.
