Race Report
It was warm and humid for the June run. Some regular runners were away at Endure 24 so we had 24 finishers including a new runner, Freddie Lawson, from Forton. Freddie finished 3rd running nearly 4 minutes faster than his estimated time.
Paced by his friend Arthur Hibbert, Charlie Hillier knocked nearly four minutes off his previous best time and finished first to be our Rising Star. Most Improved Woman was Jacqui Healey. It was a case of women and children first since our Most Improved Man, Rob Bryan, was 7th overall.
Alice Evans finishing her 81st L2SOTM
Camilla Janmohamed was hot on Jacqui's heels with a new personal record and James Billingham, Kerry Starkey, Jack Dundas, Pete Barratt and Roger Bradley also recorded their best ever times.
We wished a fond farewell to the Evans family. Alice was at our first race nearly 12 years ago. She is our fastest ever woman and has raced 81 times. She was supported by Jonathan and Sim and we wish them and the whole family good luck for their new life in Christchurch.
Thanks very much to the adults who accompanied children round the course, to Maggie Barber, Jonathan Evans, Carol Bradley and Andy Barber for marshalling, to Maggie and Jim Dundas for delicious refreshments, to Andy Barber for doing the signs, David Gould for crunching the numbers and to the Cricket Club for the lovely venue.
Our next race is on Sunday 8th July starting at the usual time of 10am at the Cricket Ground. Everyone is welcome especially volunteers to help (full training provided). It is a handicap race so people of all abilities have a chance to win.
