Race Report
It was hot, hot, hot for the July run. The heat did not deter our 28 runners (including 3 first timers: Sarah Jarman, Stuart Dewey and Mason Askew) but it was no surprise that only seven of them beat their handicaps.
First home and our Rising Star was Evie Hillier in a new personal best time. All that training for the Andover Triathlon is clearly paying off.
It was good to welcome back the Strøier family on a visit from Denmark. They even brought Jesper's Dad, Vagn, who helped out as a marshal. And didn't they do well? Jesper, in 2nd place and also with a PB, was our Most Improved Man, Magnus was 4th overall and Jeanette was the fastest finisher though not the Most Improved Lady. That honour went to Carol Bradwell who finished 3rd in another PB.
Congratulations to Daniel Sanderson and Charlie Hillier on new PBs and commiserations to Mason who got lost and finished last after running about twice as far as everyone else. We awarded him a scratch time so as not to mess up next month's handicaps.
Thanks very much to the adults who accompanied children round the course, to Maggie Barber, Vagn Strøier, Penny Billingham and family and Angela Dewey for marshalling, to Maggie and Jim Dundas for delicious refreshments, to Andy Smith for doing the signs, David Gould for crunching the numbers and to the Cricket Club for the lovely venue.
Looking forward to September, we need some help as both Jeremy and Maggie are away. Please contact us if you are able to marshal. Thanks very much.
Our next race is on Sunday 12th August starting at the usual time of 10am at the Cricket Ground.
Everyone is welcome especially volunteers to help (full training provided). If you'd like to run it is a handicap race so people of all abilities have a chance to win.
