Race Report

Claire, Charlie and Mike, our Most Improved Runners

The heat wave is over (or at least paused) and it was warm and drizzly for the August run. That was much better for running than July's hot, hot, hot. There were no cricketers so we sheltered in the pavilion which made the course a bit longer than usual.

It's a good job we still have open borders to EU citizens because this month we had another fast visitor. New runner Marcello Volpi from northern Italy was first home. We also welcomed three villagers to their first runs: Karyn Bellinger, Ian Lathey and Aly Jarman.

Second home was Charlie Hillier who was our Rising Star. His accompanying adult (no names for fear of embarrassing him/her) was hard pressed to keep up with him and is tempted to bring a bike next month. Our Most Improved Man was Mike Dukes who came 3rd and 6th placed Claire Collier was Most Improved Woman. Despite the extra distance, our three trophy winners all recorded personal best times. Well done.

It was nice to see Andy Smith, encouraged by Helen, his on course support crew, returning to form in 5th place.

Thanks very much to the adults who accompanied children round the course, to Maggie Barber, Nick and Sarah Collier and Carol Bradwell for marshalling, to Maggie, Claire Collier and Jim Dundas for delicious refreshments, to Andy and Helen Smith for doing the signs, David Gould for crunching the numbers and to the Cricket Club for the lovely venue.

Looking forward to September, we need some help as both Jeremy and Maggie are away. Please contact us if you are able to marshal. Thanks very much.

Our next race is on Sunday 9th September starting at the usual time of 10am at the Cricket Ground.

Everyone is welcome especially volunteers to help (full training provided). If you'd like to run it is a handicap race so people of all abilities have a chance to win.
