Race Report

Conditions were good for the July race.

Christina Searle donned her running shoes for the first time in the L2SOTM, having previously helped out as a volunteer. Starting from an estimated handicap, Christina overtook everyone ahead of her and finished three minutes ahead of the field in the second fastest time of the day. Brilliant running!

First home off a true handicap was Ian Beveridge who was our Most Improved Man. Most Improved Woman was Blaithin O'Dea in 4th place. Sylvia Crook recorded a personal best time. This was her fifth event and so far she has managed to improve every time. Well done all.

Statisticians will note the spooky coincidence that the runners who started 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th also finished 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th. I wonder what the odds of that are?

There was fierce competition lower down the field as well with Hannah Ross just pipping Jacqui Healey at the post.

Thanks very much to Maggie Barber, Andy Smith, Nick, Claire and Sarah Collier, Rebekah Searle and David Gould for helping and the Cricket Club for the lovely venue.

Our next race is on Sunday 8th August. You will be very welcome if you'd like to run or help out. We will be gradually easing into a new post-Covid way of organising the race. For the time being we will stick with entries having to be done in advance as it makes the admin much less stressful on the day.

Your start time depends on how fast you are. For your first race it will be based on your estimated time. After that your handicap will be based on your most recent result. Slower runners will start first with the fastest last so the winner is the person who improves most.

We issue a monthly email invitation a few days before each race and very occasional other emails. Please follow this link to be added to our Mail Chimp list. Some email systems may treat your first email as spam so please look out for it and add us to your trusted list.

Hannah surges past Jacqui at the finish.
