Race Report

We welcomed new runners Hamish Martin, Rachel Forrest, Jan Lacey and Barney Cooper to the March race. The sun shone, the conditions were good apart from a bit of mud underfoot and no fewer than 20 runners managed to break their handicaps.

Rachel and Hamish were first and second but you can't win the trophies off an estimated handicap so the honours went to Emma Baker and Oliver Baker in 3rd and 4th place in personal best times. It is often the case that runners are most improved at their second race and so it was with Emma and Oliver even though, in Emma's case, it was more that 15 years since her first event. She also gets the honour of the longest gap between races!

There were personal records also for Susanna Benedetto, Jo Brunwin, Tom Rogers, Jack Dundas and Megan Brunwin who was our Rising Star. Special mention goes the Emma's sister, Katy Evans who finished in 7th place with a personal best time that broke the women's course record by nearly a minute. Well done!

Our trophy winners

Afterwards we enjoyed a warm welcome, bacon rolls and coffee at The Plough.

Incidentally, The Plough are the main sponsors of the HBT5 a lovely five mile race in Hurstbourne Tarrant on Saturday 2 May and the Harewood 10K is the following Monday. Both races feature wonderful displays of bluebells and support local good causes so please do enter.

Thank you very much to Maggie Barber, Christina Searle, Nick and Sarah Collier for marshalling, Andy Smith and Alice Evans for doing the signs and to David Gould for processing the results.

The next race is a week later than usual on Sunday 15 March, starting at 9am at The Plough.

New runners are always welcome and you don't have to be fast. It's a handicap race so everyone, whatever their pace, has a chance of winning.

We issue a monthly email invitation a few days before each race and very occasional other emails. Please follow this link https://tinyurl.com/yygolzdb to be added to our Mail Chimp list.
