Race Report

We welcomed new runners, Billy Priestleyand Nicci Skerritt to the August run. By a happy coincidence Billy who at the age of six represents the new generation, is runner number 500. It is going to be a fast generation. Billy was first home in under 30 minutes. In theory you can't win a trophy at your first event but that performance merited an exception.

Conditions were good, if a little warm, and our first 10 finishers all broke their handicaps. Most Improved Man was James Hillier who broke his handicap by an amazing 9 minutes and 24 seconds. James has been on a get fit campaign and it is certainly working. Whatever he is on, we all need some. It was a family success for Jo Brunwin and Alfie Brunwin, our Most Improved Woman and Junior who kindly shared a cup so Billy could have a trophy.

It is a strange quirk of handicap racing that a runner can break the course record without being most improved. When we complied the results we discovered that Ben Evans had done just that. Well done! Ben is following in his father's footsteps as Jonathan Evans was course record holder back in 2014.

L to R Ben, Jo, Alfie, James and Billy

Thank you very much to Maggie Barber and Ailsa Wiggans, for marshalling, to Andy Smith and Alice Evans for doing the signs and to David Gould for processing the results.

The next race is on Sunday 13 September, starting at 9am at The Plough. New runners are always welcome and you don't have to be fast. It's a handicap race so everyone, whatever their pace, has a chance of winning.
