Race Report

What a wonderful morning! It was bright and sunny for the November race; a day to make you feel good to be alive. Lots of people must have felt the same as we had a high turnout despite the early start. We welcomed two new runners: Matt Simmons in his first ever 5K run and brand new trainers and Jack Winyard. As always the new runners grossly under-estimated their abilities so they finished first and second by miles. But you can't win the trophies off an estimated handicap. Conditions were good and no fewer than six runners finished in Personal Best times. Well done!

The Most Improved Runners
The Rising Star was Wilf Hillier who beat his previous best by over five minutes. Most Improved lady was Rachel Waite who was overjoyed. Somewhat calmer was our Most Improved Man, Jim Dundas. The last three results perhaps merit a word of explanation. David was accompanied by his personal trainer, Richard, on a bicycle. Unfortunately the trainer couldn’t keep up with his Dad so all three runners joined forces to keep him company. Thanks very much to everyone who helped marshal, to Jim and Maggie for scrummy cake and flapjack; to David for the signs and, last but by no means least, to the Cricket Club for letting us use their lovely grounds. The next race is on Sunday 8 December. There will be mince pies and mulled wine. Please feel free to wear a Santa hat!
