Race Report
The weather was good for the 29 runners in the September race, the day after the record-breaking fete. We welcomed four new runners: Anne Worswick, Chris Rattray, Kathryn Jones and Matt Doughty-Jones.
Our experience is that estimated handicaps tend to underestimate the ability of the runner and, true-to-form, Chris and Anne finished in the top two places. Next home was Jeremy Barber who became our Most Improved Man. Joanne Wyatt was Most Improved Woman and Pollyanna Reynolds retained the trophy as our Rising Star
Piers Blewitt, Rob Bryan, Matt Jeffery and Penny Rattray recorded best ever times; not easy for Rob, in particular, as this was his 41st race. Well done all.
Thanks very much to Kevin Hickey for being starter, to Maggie Barber, Billy Reynolds, Sandra Doney and Angela Bryan for marshalling, to Maggie, Angela and Victoria Blewitt for the scrummy cakes, to the adults who accompanied juniors, to the junior personal trainers who accompanied adults, to Team Smith for doing the signs, to David Gould for crunching the numbers and to the Cricket Club for the lovely venue.
A black Slazenger sweatshirt was left behind after the race. Please contact Jeremy if you know who it belongs to.
Our next race is on Sunday 13th October, starting at the usual time of 10am at the Cricket Ground.
Everyone is welcome especially volunteers to help (full training provided). It is a handicap race so people of all abilities have a chance to win.
