Race Report

The field for the June race was the highest for more than two years. We welcomed new runners Hayley Halford and Mark Johnson. We also had a new venue, The Plough, and a new route including the spinal path and Tracy's Dell.

Our new 5K route

As often happens, our new runners underestimated their speed so they finished in the top two places. Mr Handicap will sort that out next month. First home off a genuine handicap was Alexander Kidd (accompanied by his Mum, Camilla) who became our Rising Star. Next was Most Improved Woman, Rebekah Searle followed by Most Improved Man, Mark Curtis. Well done all!

The new route is much hillier than the previous one with over 300 feet of climbing . We enjoyed the challenge and the last kilometre, gently down the Middleway was a wonderful relief.

Trophy winners Rebekah, Mark and Alexander

Afterwards many of the runners took advantage of the Plough's new breakfast offer and tucked into a well-earned full English or a bacon butty or just enjoyed a nice sit down.

Thank you to The Plough - the breakfast was excellent

Thank you very much to Maggie Barber, Roger Bradley and Mike Dukes, Rebehah and Raymond Searle and Nick Collier for marshalling, Andy Smith for doing the signs, to the adults who accompanied juniors and to David Gould for processing the results.

The next race is on Sunday, 14 July starting at 9am at The Plough. New runners are always welcome and you don't have to be fast. It's a handicap race so everyone, whatever their pace, has a chance of winning.
