Race Report

The Fleet

Not the best weather for the spectators – a bit cool, spat with rain (briefly, during the race) – but great for the runners. A decent-sized field turned out to contest the “mince pies and mulled wine” Christmas edition of the L2SOTM.

Mathieu—storming

Sheila—improving

Storming through the field came Mathieu to be the first person home. Mathieu has been promoted to ‘senior’ and received the cup as Most Improved Man.

Most Improved Lady, only just behind Mathieu, was Sheila, and she and Mathieu improved on their last runs by over a minute each. Very well done to both of them.

The first runner home legally old enough to accept the prize generously donated by Jack for the Christmas run was Jim, just 15 seconds behind Sheila.

The Fancy

The angelic Jacqui—how did she run in all that?

John—one of Santa’s little helpers

It could only be the Christmas L2SOTM

Jeremy—an honourable mention

We had a good number of runners in complete or partial fancy dress. I have no idea how they managed to keep running in all that clobber, especially Jacqui, who had to hitch her up dress the entire time.

Prizes for fancy dress were awarded to Jacqui, John and to the best–decorated buggy of the field.

The Food

After the running, we all stopped for mince pies, mulled wine, some excellent cake from Jim and Jack and for the slightly extended prizegiving.

Post-race party

The Fanks

Thanks go to Maggie, Jack and Simeon for timekeeping and marshalling; to Jack for officiating and providing extra prizes; to the Goulds for putting out the signs in approximately the right places; the Jim and Jack for the cake; to Maggie for catering above and beyond the call of duty; to the Cricket Club for the use of the excellent facilities; to all the runners and supporters for making it such a fun event and—last, but not least—to Jeremy, whose fault it all is that we’re able to do this every month.
