Race Report

The Most Improved Runners Nina, Dave and Sandra

It was a beautiful, bright morning for the February race and there was a near record turnout of 25 runners of whom 15 beat their handicaps. Well done!.

We welcomed new runners Lee Thomson, Angela Dewy and Derrick Gardiner and it was also great to see a few people back after long absences.

First home was Nina Smith who beat her handicap by an amazing 4 minutes and 51 seconds to become our Rising Star with a new Personal Best. Most Improved Man was Dave Henery who beat his handicap by 1 minute and 44 seconds. Most Improved Lady was Sandra Jones who demonstrated the advantage of extreme tapering by beating her handicap by 44 seconds after an absence of over two years. Jesper Stroier, Gina Graham, Rob Bryan and Camilla Janmohamed also recorded Personal Bests.

Thanks very much to the Goulds for putting out the signs, to Marija Davis and Maggie Barber for marshalling and to Nina who helped out after she finished. Thank you also to everyone who helped by accompanying other runners and, of course, to the Longparish Cricket Club for the lovely venue.

Afterwards the runners enjoyed relaxing in the sunshine with tea or coffee and excellent cake (thank you Jim Dundas) and flapjack (thanks Maggie).

The next race is on Sunday 8th March starting at the usual time of 10am at the Cricket Ground. It is a handicap race so runners of all abilities have a chance to win!

In April we'll be celebrating 100 races so we'd like to invite everyone who has ever run to do it again. There will be a special souvenir for all runners. To help us order the right number please email jeremy.barber@longparish.org.uk to let us know if you plan to come.
