Race Report

Our trophy winners, photobombed by Elizabeth and the Green Reaper

It was a lovely sunny morning for the January race. It may have been the weather or it may have been New Year Resolutions but either way we had an above-average field of 31 runners including newcomers Monty Lawson, Sharon Read, Kathleen Moore and Mandy Atkinson-Willes.

First home and Most Improved Man was Dave Henery. Sheila Evans was Most Improved Woman and our Rising Star was Freddie Brown. Freddie recorded his best time ever as did Wojtek Majka, Matt Jeffery, Andrew Jones and Jack Dundas Well done all!

Thanks very much to Luke Pierce, David Gould and Maggie Barber for marshalling, to Maggie for the refreshments, to the adults who accompanied juniors, to Andy Smith for doing the signs, to David for crunching the numbers and to the Cricket Club for the lovely venue.

Next month is the LOVE run so the next L2SOTM will be on Sunday 8 March at the Cricket Ground, starting at the usual time of 10am. Everyone is welcome especially volunteers to help (full training provided). It is a handicap race so people of all abilities have a chance to win.

If you are reading this then you probably live within the 15 mile radius fallout area of a massive incinerator which an American company wants to build between Longparish and Barton Stacey. A formal planning application is expected soon.

The LOVE run is a fun event to raise awareness about this proposed monstrosity: twice the size of Winchester Cathedral and burning half a million tonnes of rubbish every year. LOVE stands for Linking Our VillagEs. The villages being Longparish and Barton Stacey. It is a fun run not a timed race, starting at 10am with registration from 9am.

The idea is to run between the two villages (football pitch to football pitch). It is cross country and a bit over 6 miles (10Km) on footpaths and quiet roads. There's a map at the foot of this page in case you'd like to reccy the route. It includes good viewpoints of the incinerator site. The run will be in the morning of the Sunday before Valentine's Day which is 9 February. You can start at either end and run to the other. When you meet someone coming the other way greet them, high 5 or whatever.

Be aware that the weather may be poor and wear appropriate clothing. Trail shoes are recommended. There's great interest on social media already. We need marshals, cake makers, and cheering crowds as well as runners. Please run or help.

Please contact me if you are able to help. The more the merrier. If you'd like to run please enter here
