Race Report

Our winners flanked by David and Jeremy showing off their new tee-shirts.

It was a bright, sunny morning for the 144th race; ideal conditions for David and Jeremy to celebrate 100 runs each. They came in new special tee-shirts to mark the occasion.

There was a good field of 29 people including new runners Andrew Jones, Jim Hailstone, Lewis Jones, and Helen Jude. You are all very welcome.

First home and breaking his handicap but just one second shy of 3 minutes was Dave Henery in his 81st race. Whatever he had for breakfast I'd like some of it, please.

Billy Reynolds was our Rising Star and Jacqui Healey who ran in our first ever race back in October 2006 was our Most Improved Woman.

Six of today's runners ran in the first race: Jacqui, David Gould, Andy Smith, Wendy and Ian Beveridge and Jeremy Barber and between them they have totted up 516 finishes.

Sludge cake, brownies, carrot cake and a chocolate and smartie special. Very healthy!

After the race we celebrated with lovely cakes including some which we could count towards our five a day and prosecco (another of the 5 if grapes count) orange juice (definitely counts) and strawberry milk (probably doesn't count but still good for you) as well as the usual hot drinks.

Thanks very much to the adults who accompanied children round the course, to Maggie Barber, Lisa Hailstone, Alex Gregory, Dennis Doney, Angela Bryan and Angela Dewey for marshalling, to Maggie Barber, David Gould, Sandra Doney and Angela Bryan for delicious refreshments, to Andy Smith for doing the signs, David Gould for crunching the numbers and to the Cricket Club for the lovely venue.

Our next race is on Sunday 9th December, starting at the usual time of 10am at the Cricket Ground. It is our Christmas race so there will be mulled wine and mince pies. Santa hats will be welcome but save the full fancy dress for the Great Longparish Santa Dash on Boxing Day.

Everyone is welcome especially volunteers to help (full training provided).

If you'd like to run it is a handicap race so people of all abilities have a chance to win.

And finally, for those who like numbers, here's an interesting coincidence. It was the 144th (12 squared) race and David and Jeremy ran their 100th (10 squared), Dave ran his 81st (9 squared) and Rob Bryan recorded his 36th finish (6 squared), Kerry Starkey was on her 9th (3 squared) Stewart Dewey was on his 4th (2 squared) and there were 4 (2 squared) on their first (1 squared). There are probably some deeper hidden meanings and messages from aliens in there somewhere.
